Norway is a country where Sara was born and raised but she feels at home wherever she goes: her family members come from all across the Europe and that is the reason why she is familiar with so many different cultures. We meet her at ESET, Technical School of Design, Architecture and Engineering to talk about her expectations, dreams and future plans.
Maybe the fact that you grew up in a multicultural family made you think about going to study abroad?
Yes, definitely. I have always loved getting to know other cultures and exploring other countries. Travelling and experiencing new things is my biggest passion. As much as I wanted to study Architecture I knew from the very beginning that I am going to do it in another country because my main goal is to study something that I am passionate about in a special way. I mean not only am I interested in my studies, but also in learning about other cultures. I am looking forward to my studies because I want to be surrounded by interesting people, get an unforgettable experience and get inspired which will also help me in my professional career.
I was looking for an international university where I would be able to do both, studying and exploring new places, so CEU Valencia was a perfect option for me.
And why did you choose Spain? First of all, the weather here is so good! It’s hot and sunny which makes everything look beautiful. I want to learn a new language, too. But maybe the main reason I chose Spain is that my uncle lives in Elche and I have been visiting him a lot since I was little. So I have always been much related to Spanish culture and their way of living. Moreover, I was looking for an international university where I would be able to do both, studying and exploring new places, so CEU Valencia was a perfect option for me.
What is your favourite city in Spain?
I have been to Malaga and Canary Islands but Valencia is definitely my favourite so far.
As I understand, you always knew that you are going to be an architect. When did you notice that Architecture is your cup of tea and what attracts you most in this field of study?
I was drawing a lot when I was little, mostly on walls which my mother was not very happy about… When I was 8 years old I got a computer game The Sims and was spending hours on building houses. After several years I realized that I really enjoy doing it so I started to use certain programmes created for architects and tried to make and construct something more professional. What attracts me most in this field of study is that not only are you able to study in the classroom, but also travel and get to see everything with your own eyes and broaden your horizons at the same time. I have always been into art and loved creating something new and special so now I will be able to express myself through architecture.
What do you expect from your studies and what are your main goals that you want to achieve?
Well, first of all, I want to become the best architect possible and get more creative. I did not want to just get the Nordic or Norwegian perspective on architecture, but a broader perspective on everything. I think it is also very important to learn how to express my ideas on a paper and after create something new and innovative. I was thinking about the ways I could bring together the architecture and helping people. As an architect, I really want to go to Central Asia, for example to Syria or Iraq and build up the infrastructure. My objective is to find solutions for cheap but good-quality buildings and houses. I want to use my knowledge to help other people.
