The City University of New York welcomes professor Susana Sanz Caballero

On January 15, Susana Sanz Caballero joined the City University of New York (CUNY) to start her activities as a Fulbright Schuman Fellow, which will continue through July.

On that day, Professor Susana Sanz, from CEU UCH and now a Fulbright Scholar, was welcomed at CUNY by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Sarolta Takacs. Dean Takacs extended a warm greeting on behalf of the Faculty and provided the CEU UCH professor with the resources and support necessary to carry out her comparative research on the Rule of Law in Europe and the United States.

Additionally, Professor Sanz met over a working lunch with the Chair of the Department of Political Science, Prof. Michael Paris, and her host and supervisor at CUNY, Prof. Jane Marcus-Delgado. During the meeting, Professor Sanz outlined the main aspects of her research, gathered data on the American context, and received recommendations for relevant literature. The meeting was instrumental in refining the scope of her upcoming research and identifying courses and activities at CUNY that could contribute to her studies in political science and law.

Subsequently, Professor Sanz met with Amy Stempler, Director of the Social Sciences Library, who introduced her to the extensive documentary resources CUNY offers, particularly in the areas of democracy and the Rule of Law. Finally, she held a meeting with Winnie Brophy, Director of the Center for Global Engagement, where they planned a series of talks and international events in which Professor Sanz will participate as a speaker and panelist.

The host university boasts the largest urban campus in the United States. CUNY’s facilities, all of which Professor Sanz will have access to, are spread across five New York City boroughs: Staten Island, Manhattan, Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

On January 21, Susana Sanz was received at the Spanish Consulate General in New York by diplomat Mr. Pedro Calvo-Sotelo Ibáñez-Martín. He welcomed her to the city as a new Fulbright scholar and provided information about the numerous cultural and educational activities organized by the consulate. He also highlighted many other events in which the consulate is involved to promote Spanish culture through the Cervantes Institute, the Hispanic Society, and social organizations such as “La Nacional.” He invited her to actively participate in these initiatives.

Likewise, the College of Staten Island (CSI) of The City University of New York (CUNY) announces through its media outlet (CSI Today) the appointment of UCH-CEU professor Susana Sanz Caballero as a Fulbright Schumann researcher at the Department of Political Science and Global Affairs for six months.
