RUVID Yearbook shares projects from members of the Rule of Law in Europe project

Within the framework of the Research Project on the Crisis of the Rule of Law in the European Union, led by Jean Monnet Chair, Professor Susana Sanz Caballero, from the CEU Cardenal Herrera University (UCH-CEU), significant advances have been achieved that deserve to be highlighted. Recently, the Network of Valencian Universities for the Promotion of Research, Development, and Innovation (RUVID) has shared the results of these investigations in its annual yearbook.

Two research studies have drawn attention for their relevance and significant contributions to the academic and legal spheres. The first is the article by Professor Susana Sanz Caballero, a professor of Public International Law at UCH-CEU, published in the prestigious international journal Humanities and Social Science Communications. In her article, Professor Sanz addresses the legal implications within the framework of the European Union and NATO regarding hybrid threats and lawfare. This in-depth analysis provides a comprehensive view of the contemporary legal challenges facing supranational institutions, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine and Russian attacks, in an increasingly complex and changing world.

On the other hand, Professor Leopoldo García Ruiz, a Philosophy of Law professor at UCH-CEU, has contributed with a notable research study published in the renowned Chilean Law Journal of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. In his article, Professor García Ruiz examines the conflict between security and freedom, focusing on state abuses during the pandemic. Specifically, he analyzes the case of tennis player Novak Djokovic and his impediment to enter Australia during the 2022 Open. This study sheds light on the tensions between public health protection and the respect for individual rights, as well as on the role of the State in times of crisis and the abuse of crisis legislation.

The advances made within the framework of the Research Project on the Crisis of the Rule of Law in the EU are a testament to the commitment and academic excellence of CEU Cardenal Herrera University and its team of researchers. These studies not only contribute to academic debate but also offer valuable perspectives to address the legal and social challenges of the contemporary world. We will continue to be attentive to future research and developments in this field, which is so relevant to our society.
