Ceramics are classified as inorganic and nonmetallic materials that are essential to our daily lifestyle. Ceramics are all around us. They are made by taking mixtures of clay, earthen elements, powders, and water and shaping them into desired forms.
Once the ceramic has been shaped, it is fired in a high temperature oven known as a kiln. Typically, they will demonstrate excellent strength and hardness properties.
For that, we ask Martin Rafael Perez Sanchez, General Delegate of the students of Valencia, to tell us more about this new club of ceramics and his answers make us want to join them!
“CEU Cerámica is an initiative led by some Design students at ESET. The aim is to provide a place where students can come together and take part in the unique craft of ceramics. The purpose of CEU Cerámica is to facilitate learning and to provide a space for students to produce their own pieces of ceramic work. For now this Thursday will be the first contact and on Tuesday we will get down to work.”
In fact, monthly sessions will be held with a professional craftsperson specializing in ceramics.
“There are two types of sessions, those for work and those for theory. In theory, the teacher teaches us techniques and concepts about ceramics and in practice we develop this knowledge by making our projects and applying the technique that best suits.” He told us.
Also, Martin explains to us that “In this club you can improve artistically and meet other students who share the same interests as you. The group is open to all CEU UCH students, regardless of the degree they are studying for. For now, there are around 15 and there are more national students so international students must sign up to be a more intercultural group!”
