5 benefits of Tandem

5 benefits of Tandem

They say that learning a language is like learning to ride a bike! You start slowly and fall off a few times, but if you keep at it you get better and better and in the end you can go places you never thought you would go!

So what’s the best way to learn a language?… Talking with a native speaker of that language… And here’s where Tandem can help. With Tandem, people learning the language can meet and have a chat with native speakers of that language. So what are the benefits of this method? Here are five of them:

  1. USE THE LANGUAGE

Clearly, using the language is the main goal.  Tandem will help you by putting you face to face with a native speaker, something that is not always possible. Moreover, a native will ease the task to assimilate and become familiar  with the particular accent of a language and improve understanding.

2. SOCIALIZE AND MEET PEOPLE

Tandem will give you the opportunity to meet new people. At the same time you learn, you socialize and enjoy discovering different aspects of people who accompany you. It could be even the beginning of a beautiful friendship or whatever comes up…

3. LEARN TO GET INVOLVED IN CONVERSATIONS

When you learn a language, it is great to know all the theory.  But, it’s even better to put it into practice. So, it’s a nice idea to complement classroom learning with Tandem and get rid of the fear of speaking in public using a language that it is not your own. Shame won’t get you anywhere.

4. MAKE THE LEARNING PLEASANT

Who likes to spend hours and hours listening to the teacher in class? It seems like nobody does… So,  Tandem is for you. Learning and enjoying are totally compatible and maybe, it is the best way to start loving the art of learning new languages.

5. LEARN “THE REAL WAY”

Remember you are talking with a partner, not with a teacher! When we are learning a language we usually do it in a very academic way. But this isn’t how native speakers really talk! They use real language. We need to control the language of the street.  After all, it is the most used in the day to day.

For all these reasons, you shouldn’t miss out this oportunity given by the Languages Service at the CEU-UCH. For more information, join our Facebook group.
