Students of University CEU Cardenal Herrera have the chance to live in a region with more than 520 kilometers of coastline. Now that summer is officially here and that the exam season is over (for some at least!), here you have 5 easy tips to enjoy the sun and beach in a responsible way!
1. Always use sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection of SPF 30 (or more)
Make sure to check the label and use the best sunscreen according to your type of skin. If you have very fair skin, lots of freckles or are not used to being in the sun and you don’t know what sunscreen to use, read this article or go to the nearest pharmacy and ask for some advice! Be smart and add any kind of additional protection you can think of: wear hats, t-shirts, go to the shade from time to time…
2. Re-apply frequently!
It is important to re-apply your sunscreenn every two hours, especially if you are sweating a lot or going for frequent swims…and be generous when applying the sunscreen! Remember to put some cream on your ears, toes and eyelids!
3. Avoid being in the sun between 11:00 and 16:00
Whenever possible, try to avoid being in the sun between those hours as it is when the sun’s UV rays are the most powerful.
4. Try never to get sunburnt
UV radiation penetrates into your skin and damages your cells, increasing the risk of getting dangerous skin conditions. Also, getting sunburnt is painful as your skin gets red and hot, which can lead to blisters and swelling. So you don’t have to pass through all that pain and the later skin peeling to get a nice tan; act responsibly, use adequate sunscreen and you will get the healthy look you are looking for!
5. Protect your eyes with sunglasses
Long-term sun exposure can also affect your eyes, as it can burn the surface of the eye and increase the risk of a type of cataract. Protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses that have been treated to absorb UVA and UVB radiation, and make sure to buy adequate, high-quality glasses in a pharmacy or in an optician’s shop. Those plastic sunglasses you can buy in street markets can be cheap and fashionable…but can really damage your eyes!
Now that you know you need to protect your skin from the sun, go outside and enjoy Valencia’s wonderful weather and beaches!
