Isabella, at the Consulate General of Spain in Miami: “I’d give this internship a 10/10”

Our students are little by little coming back to Spain after their placements abroad and giving us feedback on what they have learnt and experienced this year. Isabella Lecompte was one of the CEU students sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC) with an internship at a Spanish Consulate and has gained first-hand work experience in Miami.

If she were to rate her internship, she would not hesitate: a final 10/10 score!

“From the moment I knew I was going to do an internship at the Consulate General of Spain in Miami I felt great joy as I was going to have the opportunity to go to another country and get to know the culture and unprecedented diversity of the United States. And, to be honest, I am not at all disappointed. This experience has exceeded my expectations at all levels, both from a professional and a personal point of view.

At professional level I really liked getting to know the internal operating processes of a Consulate, as well as broadening my knowledge about the bilateral relations our country and the EU have with the US and the rest of the world. I’d give this internship a 10/10 and I would definitely do it again if I had the chance!

At a more personal level, it has been a truly enriching experience that has helped me improve my language skills and get me acquainted with other cultures. I have met wonderful people and I have learnt to be more responsible – being so far away from home you really need to be responsible! I would say that I feel more “complete” after the internship and I feel very thankful for this opportunity and the support provided by the university.”
