The students of the Technical School of Design, Architecture and Engineering of University CEU Cardenal Herrera have started a new project: painting a mural at the backyard of the School, turning a simple white wall into a celebration of colour and creativity.
“The mural project got its start when we at the Technical School wanted a garden on our backyard where we like to spend time, but as we are unable to plant one, we got the idea of painting it,” says Sara Barquero Pérez, Director of the Technical School.
Two students of the School Carmen Alcalá and Mario Momplet created the original design, and a group of first and second year Industrial Design students will be working as a team converting the drawing into a mural. The original drawing was first drawn and painted by hand, and then transferred onto the wall with pencils, charcoal, and crayons. The final mural will be completed with water-soluble paint.
“The goal was to design a mural that would represent a garden and also have elements of design mixed in, to make something that is typical for our School. So we decided to blend geometric shapes and a kaleidoscopic design together with representations of nature. The principal concept of the mural is the origin of ideas and how everything has its origin in the nature. It is an analogy of the idea as a seed from which the design blooms like a flower,” explains Carmen.
The project started at the end of September, and the students of the Technical School will be working on the mural during the following weeks. We are excited to follow their progress and cannot wait to see the finished work!
