Since then, the number of participants has grown year after year, reaching 80 students last month. This time, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchceu.com\/en\/services\/language-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Languages Service<\/a> has distributed the student across 4 different levels, each of them with their own teacher.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the course, most students returned to their home countries to enjoy the remainder of the holidays before classes began. We have taken advantage of their return to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchceu.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEU UCH<\/a> to interview some of them and get their impressions of the course.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Elena Santoro, 24, Bergamo (Italy)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first of our interviewees is Elena Santoro, a first year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchceu.es\/estudios\/grado\/fisioterapia\">Physiotherapy <\/a>student from Italy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8671\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/Elena2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"178\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/Elena2.jpg 475w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/Elena2-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/Elena2-327x420.jpg 327w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Elena was in the Spanish B2 \/ C1 group and she had a very positive assessment of the course and also of her first two months in Spain: &#8220;Improving my grammar was fundamental, but to meet new people and integrate was even more important,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>As for life in her new city, Elena says she is delighted to be here, and claims that Spain is a relatively quiet country:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;COMPARED TO ITALIANS, SPANISH PEOPLE ARE VERY RELAXED AND DISCREET&#8221;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Not sure how many international students would agree with her&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nusTDSaic7c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Harry Froment, 19. Brussels (Belgium)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">Another student who participated in the course was Harry Froment, from Brussels. He started the course with a basic level (A2), but has made great progress during these months &#8211; and not only thanks to the intensive Spanish course. &#8220;When I arrived it was clear to me that I had to make an effort to meet Spanish people, even if that meant isolating myself from the rest of the class. Before coming, I had been told that it would be hard to become close to Spanish people, however, I can assure you that if you try a bit, you will not have problems making friends here.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8672 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/harry-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"144\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/harry.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/harry-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/harry-696x928.jpg 696w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/harry-315x420.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 144px) 100vw, 144px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seems like his strategy has worked out pretty well, and today Harry, after the first days of classes, can understand the lecturers: &#8220;I still need to expand my vocabulary, but having met all these local people allows me to follow the explanations, and a month ago, that just would have been impossible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Katy Charlot, 20. Niort (France)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Katy Charlot, a Dentistry student from France, tells us that she chose Valencia due to the low number of places available for Dentistry in her region, Poitiers (only 15 for 1,300 candidates!). Katy has a slightly different perspective from Harry\u2019s, since meeting other students has been one of the most positive points of the summer course for her: &#8220;Before coming, you\u2019re unsure about things, there\u2019s just a lot of changes in your life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/katy2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8679\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/katy2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/katy2.jpg 258w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2017\/09\/katy2-211x300.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 155px) 100vw, 155px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, engaging with other students has not prevented Katy from improving her level of Spanish, since she tries to seize the encounters with other people to practice the language. The proof is that Katy barely knew any words before arriving, and yet she is now able to maintain a basic conversation in Spanish. &#8220;When I meet someone for the first time, I pretend I do not speak English or French. That forces me to make the effort to learn.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"td_pull_quote td_pull_center\"><p>\u201cThe course helps you to realize that you are not alone: there are many more people in the same situation you are\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These are the impressions of some of our students, each of them with their own motivations and learning methods. Although there is something that they all share: being keen to meet people and learn their language is what is making things easier for them, allowing them to get the most out of this wonderful experience.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the images of the summer course.
