Am I right? As you know, this is the third most studied language in the world so you are on the right track. However, learning languages in school will only provide you a good academic record, still, you will find it <em>too formal<\/em> when talking with local people and friends. Being aware of the fact that all of you will have to communicate in Spanish every day, I would like to tell you some <strong>curiosities<\/strong> I find in daily life. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Start and finish a conversation.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saying \u201chello\u201d and \u201cgoodbye\u201d is just not \u201chola\u201d and \u201cadi\u00f3s\u201d. In school, you would probably have learned \u201cBuenos d\u00edas, Buenas tardes, Buenas noches\u201d- Good morning, good afternoon, good night according to the moment of the day. Thus, there are more ways to start a conversation, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 tal andamos?; \u00bfC\u00f3mo va la vida?<\/strong> both mean\u00a0\u201cHow do you do?\u201d <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 hay de nuevo?<\/strong> means \u201cWhat\u00b4s new?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are too surprised or happy to see someone: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a1Hombre, cu\u00e1nto tiempo!<\/strong> is literally \u201cWow, long time no seen\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a1Mira t\u00fa por aqu\u00ed!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How about finishing a conversation? \u201cHasta luego or hasta ma\u00f1ana\u201d have been very popular. Here you have fews more choices:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a1<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Nos vemos!<\/strong> (See ya) is what I use every day to the people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a1<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Cu\u00eddate!<\/strong> (take care) you will say this to a friend or family member that you think you will not meet he\/she during a period of time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a1<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Que vaya bien!<\/strong> (hope you&#8217;d be ok) \u00a0usually for the use to wish someone something, for instance, when you friend has a test next day.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10675\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1070\" height=\"715\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3.png 1070w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3-315x210.png 315w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3-1024x684.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3-768x513.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3-696x465.png 696w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3-1068x714.png 1068w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-3-629x420.png 629w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1070px) 100vw, 1070px\" \/>Hyperbolic expressions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tendency to exaggerate the situation, qualities, actions are very normal in daily life language. You do not want to end the phrase too sudden; that is the reason why some of these expressions will, hopefully, enrich your sentences.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell something that is very expensive: <strong>Costar un ri\u00f1\u00f3n<\/strong>&#8211; cost a kidney<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell someone that is rich: <strong>Vive como un rey<\/strong>&#8211; live like a King<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell someone that is very sweet: <strong>Tener un coraz\u00f3n de oro<\/strong>&#8211; have a gold heart<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell someone that is angry: <strong>Estar de mala leche, estar hasta las narices<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell someone that is surprised: <strong>Quedarse helado<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Understand some easy jokes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can you see the funny part of these jokes? If you can, then <strong>bravo<\/strong>, your Spanish is good enough to go there and<strong> \u2018tomar el pelo de alguien\u2019<\/strong> (play a joke on someone)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10673\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/servicio-idiomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2020\/07\/14.12-315x180.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>1. \u00bfQu\u00e9 le dice un pez a otro? Swim (The original meaning) &lt;the conjugation of the verb nadar- swim&gt;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some people will translate nada with the meaning nothing, which turns into the nonsense question.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00bfC\u00f3mo te llamas? <\/strong>(What is your name?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pedro, pero cuando estornudo todos me llaman Jes\u00fas.\u00a0<\/strong>(Pedro, but when I sneeze everyone calls me Jes\u00fas.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, in each country has a different way to say when a person sneezes. In Spain, they either use<strong> salud or Jes\u00fas,<\/strong> so it makes the funny situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. \u00bfQu\u00e9 le dice el 1 al 10?\u00a0<\/strong>(<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is number 1 say to number 10?)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Para ser como yo, debes ser sincero.\u00a0<\/strong>(<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be like me, you have to be sincere)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It sounds very ridiculous, right? but if you analyze the word <strong>sincero<\/strong> into <strong>sin- without, cero- zero<\/strong>, the expression will become: To be like number 1, number 10 should be without 0. You see, very smart way to play with the letters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>4. En la zapater\u00eda pregunta la dependienta:<\/strong> (In a shoe shop, the attendance asks)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; \u00bfQu\u00e9 n\u00famero tiene de pie?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; El mismo que sentado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the question, of the shopkeeper, she wants to ask:\u00a0What is your size?; however, but the client has misunderstood to the meaning of <strong>estar de pie- stand up<\/strong>, turn out the question is What is your shoe size when you are standing?. Nunca las he medido.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The joke here is the person asks for the street name Mayor, not about the size of the street, which of course, we actually never measure them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Final vocabulary: Are you kidding me?- <strong>\u00bfEst\u00e1s de cachondeo?; \u00bfLo dices en broma?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I hope that some of these vocabularies have been useful to you.
