In mid-July, Professor Susana Sanz Caballero concluded her Fulbright-Schuman postdoctoral stay<\/strong>, focused on comparing the rule of law crisis in the European Union and the United States of America<\/strong>. During the final months of her stay, Professor Sanz participated in the conference The European Union in an Illiberal World<\/em><\/strong> and the seminar The European Challenge<\/em><\/strong>, where she addressed disinformation and information manipulation as hybrid threats<\/strong> in both regions, and the link between violations of the rule of law and violations of human rights<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, she held meetings with the Department of Political Science at the College of Staten Island<\/a><\/strong> with the aim of strengthening ties with the host institution<\/strong> and encouraging its faculty and researchers to apply for Fulbright stays at CEU Cardenal Herrera University<\/strong>. She also delivered a wrap-up session<\/em><\/strong> presenting the conclusions of her work during the seven-month stay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the first post-grant collaboration initiative, Professors Jane Marcus-Delgado<\/a> and Susana Sanz<\/strong> will launch a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning)<\/strong> project on hybrid threats<\/strong>, addressed to their Political Science students in the subjects of International Politics<\/strong> and Public International Law<\/strong>, respectively. The activity will be supported by Valeria Belmonti<\/a>, expert in virtual exchange at CUNY<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her stay, Professor Sanz also traveled to Washington D.C.<\/strong>, where she met with Federico Steinberg<\/a>, holder of the Prince of Asturias Chair at Georgetown University<\/strong>, who presented the research work being carried out there. They explored potential avenues for joint collaboration<\/strong>, including EU-funded projects in areas of shared interest<\/strong>. Susana Sanz also visited the Supreme Court<\/strong>, the Library of Congress<\/strong>, and the Capitol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the final days of her stay, Susana Sanz met with other European Fulbright grantees<\/strong> to promote the organization of an International Week<\/em><\/strong> and to foster Erasmus mobility opportunities<\/strong> involving former Fulbrighters, where they could share research experiences and insights gained<\/strong>. They also discussed the preparation of joint proposals for European research projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her last days in New York, Professor Sanz held institutional meetings<\/strong> with representatives from the Fulbright Commission<\/strong> (including cultural ambassador Leslie Graifman<\/strong>), the Institute of International Education<\/em><\/strong> (including Helen Thurston<\/strong>), Fausto de Quadros from the World Bank Arbitration Tribunal<\/strong> based in Washington, as well as with representatives from the Cervantes Institute<\/strong>, the Consulate General of Spain<\/strong>, and the Ambassador of Chile to the United Nations, Paula Narv\u00e1ez<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, during her final month, Professor Sanz published a contribution to the collective volume<\/strong> edited by Gabriela Oanta<\/strong>, The Presence of International Organizations in the Evolution of the Law of the Sea<\/em>, and an opinion article in the Chilean newspaper Concepci\u00f3n<\/em><\/strong> entitled: Spain: An Exemplary Democracy Under the EU\u2019s Scrutiny<\/em><\/a>. The stay also allowed Susana Sanz to complete the final review of the two-volume work Overcoming the Crisis of Democratic Values in the EU<\/em><\/strong>, which will soon be published by Tirant publishing house<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
