On April 26th, the University of Palermo in Italy will host a significant meeting of experts titled “Hybrid Threats versus Democratic Resilience.” At this event, distinguished academics and professionals will share their perspectives on a topic of crucial importance for the stability and security of our contemporary democracies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the prominent participants in this meeting are Professor Diego Mauri from the University of Palermo, Professor Aurel Sari from the University of Exeter, and Professor Luigi Lonardo from University College Cork, among other experts in the field of security and international politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hybrid threats represent an increasingly complex and sophisticated challenge for modern democracies. These threats materialize when state or non-state actors seek to exploit the vulnerabilities of states and their democratic institutions, using a coordinated combination of measures across various domains, such as diplomatic, military, economic, and technological, always staying below the threshold of formal war. A prominent example of these threats is the obstruction of democratic decision-making processes through massive disinformation campaigns, the use of social media to control political narratives, or to radicalize, recruit, and direct proxy actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The principal investigator of the Project on the Rule of Law in Europe, Professor Susana Sanz Caballero, Jean Monnet Chair at UCH CEU in Valencia, has been cordially invited to participate in this expert forum. Her experience and expertise in the rule of law and the crisis of values and threats to democracy in Europe will undoubtedly enrich the debates and contribute to the search for effective solutions to address these complex threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
