{"id":1432,"date":"2024-03-07T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/rule-of-law-crisis-eu\/?p=1432"},"modified":"2024-03-03T20:11:22","modified_gmt":"2024-03-03T19:11:22","slug":"italy-training-latin-american-judges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/rule-of-law-crisis-eu\/en\/italy-training-latin-american-judges\/","title":{"rendered":"Training Argentinian and Mexican Judges in Italy: Module on International Human Rights Protection and Rule of Law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>For the tenth consecutive year, Professor Susana Sanz Caballero, Chair of Public International Law and Jean Monnet Chair at UCH-CEU University, taught the module on &#8220;The system of human rights protection and the rule of law&#8221; at the University of Perugia, Italy, to a group of 33 Mexican and Argentinian magistrates.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This module, part of the course on updating <strong>international human rights protection<\/strong>, is one of the ongoing training initiatives organized by the <strong>University of Perugia and the University of Buenos Aires<\/strong> for the judiciary in South America. <strong>Professor Fabrizio Figorilli<\/strong> from the University of Perugia and <strong>Professor Calogero Pizzolo<\/strong>, Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Buenos Aires, serve as co-directors of this course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During <strong>Professor Sanz&#8217;s <\/strong>module, <strong>the uniqueness of the European context was highlighted, where two distinct protection systems coexist<\/strong>: those of the Council of Europe and the European Union. However, <strong>this duality has not prevented a recent and progressive decline<\/strong> in the fundamental norms of the rule of law in some European states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This European example, with its strengths and weaknesses, allowed the Latin American magistrates to <strong>compare the experience of this continent with that of their own countries <\/strong>within the framework of the Inter-American System of Human Rights and democracy protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to Professor Sanz&#8217;s module, <strong>the course featured lectures by Professor Valentina Colcelli and Professor Roberto Cippitani, members of the Research Project on the Crisis of the Rule of Law in the EU.<\/strong> This research project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, the Valencian regional government, and the San Pablo CEU University Foundation, is directed from our university and <strong>brings together 16 researchers from six European countries<\/strong> specializing in various relevant areas of law, political science, and international relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lessons of Professors Colcelli and Cippitani addressed topics related to <strong>human rights violations stemming from new technologies<\/strong>, emphasizing how this negatively impacts the rule of law and democratic resilience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the tenth consecutive year, Professor Susana Sanz Caballero, Chair of Public International Law and Jean Monnet Chair at UCH-CEU University, taught the module on &#8220;The system of human rights protection and the rule of law&#8221; at the University of Perugia, Italy, to a group of 33 Mexican and Argentinian magistrates.
