Last Friday, the Fundaci\u00f3n Valenciana de Estudios Avanzados held a Congress about Evolution, where it was shown that, until very recently, the Physicians had not a formation in genetics, which is extremely important to give advice to the parents of a genetically ill patient.<\/p>\n

The students were told about the influence of genetics in evolution, specially by the Dr. Josephine Daub, from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra; and also by Dr. Jaume Bertranpetit, until last week the Director of the ICREA programm.<\/p>\n

Also, they discovered that viral\u00a0evolution is determine by the interactions with humans.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dr. Antonio Alcam\u00ed, a researcher from the Centro de Biolog\u00eda Molecular Severo Ochoa, explained his discoveries about poxvirus and herpesvirus and how can be used to produce new drugs more efective against viral infections. He is member of the\u00a0WHO Advisory Committee on Variola Virus Research and belongs to the\u00a0Midwest Regional Center of Excellence in Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases.<\/p>\n
