Juan Viesca, general director of European Projects and Funds within the government, has claimed that in the twenty-eight years that the programme has been running, “more than a thousand Valencians have gone abroad, and so many others have come to carry out internships within the Valencian community”. In addition, Iñaki Bilbao, vice-rector of Investigation and International Relations at CEU-UCH, has highlighted the different actions the university is taking in order to give its students the opportunity to “become internationalised”.

Consuelo Torres and Emilio Terrado, who manage part of the Eurodisea programme in Valencia, have also been heavily involved. They explain how every year, around eighty young Valencians are sent abroad for their internships “which allow them to get to know a new culture, while also gaining valuable work experience”. This is exemplified by the statistic that “70% of the Eurodisea participants have found work after the programme”. Portuguese student Pedro Guedes, who worked here in Valencia, and Dora Pastor, who went to Belgium with the programme five years ago, talk about their experiences first-hand. They encourage anyone who has the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to do so, because it guarantees “human growth and personal, professional and cultural independence”.

Roberto Arnau, from the Regional Ministry of Public Administration and Tax, explained the EU´s current stance on financial assistance and reassured those who wish to work abroad: “The EU has approved specific funds to ensure the employment of young people in any region where over 25% of young people are unemployed”.

The only application requirements are that you are aged between 18-30, that you have a professional qualification (e.g. a university degree), that you are registered as a resident of Valencia and that you have a basic knowledge of the language of the country that you wish to go to.
