Rosa Visiedo, rector of CEU Cardenal Herrera University, Jackie Evans and Eileen Saville, president and vice-president of Jávea Cancer Care respectively, have signed an agreement for the creation of the English Cathedra of Modern Oncology Research (ECMOR). The principal objective of the Cathedra will be promoting research and carrying out studies and scientific work in the field of cancer treatment, which Jávea Cáncer Care will invest a total of €260,000 euros towards between 2013 and 2017. For the development of research projects, the Cathedra will be based at the Marina Salud de Dénia Hospital. The aim of the three parties is to promote research in the field of personalised pharmacotherapy for cancer patients.
The scientific work of the Cathedra will be aimed towards the design of a Personalised Cancer Medicine Programme, for which CEU Cardenal Herrera will provide a Pharmacotherapy and Personalisation in Cancer Laboratory: the “FPOlab”. This laboratory, located in the Marina Salud de Denia Hospital, will have the necessary equipment for the development of studies in the fields of pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics and pharmacokinetics.
The members of the Cathedra are Doctors Joan Manel Gassent Blesa, oncologist at Marina Salud de Denia Hospital, and Ignacio Pérez Roger, head researcher of CEU Cardenal Herrera´s Cancer Development Research Group. Both will be responsable for organising and coordinating the Cathedra´s activities, as well as allocating teams which will collaborate with CEU-UCH lecturers. The academic registrar of the Cathedra will be Doctor Miguel Peris and the ethics committee will be chaired by Doctor José Quintana.
