El estudio llevado a cabo durante el tratamiento de estos afectados deriv\u00f3 en el descubrimiento de la familia Legionellaceae, que fue encontrada como origen de un gran n\u00famero de casos de neumon\u00edas anteriormente englobadas como \u201cneumon\u00edas at\u00edpicas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Estudios posteriores indicaron que ya hab\u00edan aparecido brotes anteriores (desde 1957) pero no pudieron ser diagnosticados y tratados eficazmente ante el desconocimiento de esta bacteria.<\/p>\n<p>La aparici\u00f3n en 1990 de un kit de diagn\u00f3stico para humanos m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que el cultivo de la bacteria, ha llevado a que la detecci\u00f3n de casos haya ido aumentando de forma muy significativa a lo largo de los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, lo que ha llevado a la aparici\u00f3n de legislaciones de obligado cumplimiento para el control de esta enfermedad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Legionelosis<\/strong><br \/>\nSon bacterias Gram negativas de tipo bacilar, causantes de las denominadas fiebre de Pontiac y \u201cenfermedad del legionario\u201d o legionelosis. Consta de 1 \u00fanico g\u00e9nero (Legionella), con 48 especies y 78 serogrupos. No todas las especies presentan capacidad patog\u00e9nica, siendo Legionella pneumophila la principal implicada en los brotes infecciosos humanos.<\/p>\n<p>Es una bacteria de tipo aer\u00f3bico, flagelada, que tiene como medio natural las aguas estancadas y de bajo movimiento de la pr\u00e1ctica totalidad del planeta. Para la transmisi\u00f3n de la enfermedad, es necesaria su multiplicaci\u00f3n y diseminaci\u00f3n en forma de aerosol por parte de instalaciones t\u00e9cnicamente avanzadas, como redes de agua sanitaria, torres de refrigeraci\u00f3n u otro tipo de medios que produzcan nebulizaci\u00f3n del agua colonizada por la bacteria. No se produce infecci\u00f3n por ingesti\u00f3n, siendo su contagio \u00fanicamente por v\u00eda respiratoria.<\/p>\n<p>Esta caracter\u00edstica en su forma de infecci\u00f3n hace que no se conozcan casos cronol\u00f3gicamente anteriores al siglo XX, ni que sea una enfermedad de relevancia en pa\u00edses y zonas subdesarrolladas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1762\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/eponimos-cientificos\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2011\/10\/FOTO2741.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"263\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Las dos formas cl\u00ednicas de la enfermedad producida pueden ser bien la Fiebre de Pontiac, que cursa con s\u00edntomas parecidos a los de un resfriado com\u00fan (malestar, fiebre, dolor articular&#8230;) y que es de tipo autolimitante y de car\u00e1cter benigno, y la enfermedad del legionario o neumon\u00eda por Legionella, de car\u00e1cter grave, que produce neumon\u00edas at\u00edpicas no sensibles a la penicilina, afectaci\u00f3n multiorg\u00e1nica y finalmente la muerte, en ocasiones a pesar de tratamiento antibi\u00f3tico selectivo.<\/p>\n<p>Se trata de una enfermedad de declaraci\u00f3n obligatoria en Espa\u00f1a desde 1997.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bibliograf\u00eda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">DOVAL, G.(2002): Palabras con historia.
