Ejerci\u00f3 la medicina en Bolonia, y estaba considerado como uno de los padres de la psicosom\u00e1tica. Sus investigaciones atrajeron la hostilidad de numerosos m\u00e9dicos, sospech\u00e1ndose que el autor de su muerte por asesinato fue, nada menos, que Guy Patin decano de la Facultad de Medicina de Par\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>La relaci\u00f3n entre Poterio y Cassiano del Pozzo se estableci\u00f3 tempranamente con motivo de los contactos que tuvieron como consecuencia de epidemia de peste en Roma, y se increment\u00f3 cuando Poussin, uno de los m\u00e9dicos que m\u00e1s se hab\u00edan destacado en la lucha contra la epidemia y tambi\u00e9n protegido de Casiano y de cardenal Barberini, contrajo la enfermedad ven\u00e9rea sobre 1626. Poterio, como sabemos\u00a0fiel seguidor de las ideas paracelsistas y de la medicina psicosom\u00e1tica, recomend\u00f3 el tratamiento con mercurio.<\/p>\n<p>En efecto, Pierre Poterio establec\u00eda una relaci\u00f3n importante entre el estado psicol\u00f3gico de sus pacientes y las enfermedades que padec\u00edan. A su vez, consideraba que buena parte de la eficacia de sus tratamientos descansaba en la confianza de los pacientes en sus ideas m\u00e9dicas. Se supone que estas teor\u00edas calaron tambi\u00e9n en las ideas cl\u00ednicas de Poussin.<\/p>\n<p>Sus obras son hoy raras de encontrar, entre las que destacan \u201cObservationum et curationum insignium centuriae III\u201d (Venecia, 1615), obra que mereci\u00f3 varias reediciones, lo mismo que \u201cPharmacopoea Spargirica nova et inaudita\u201d (Bolonia, 1632). Sus obras completas publicadas bajo el t\u00edtulo de \u201cOpera omnia medica ac chymica\u201d (Lyon, 1645), tuvieron asimismo muchas ediciones. En las mismas se encuentran numerosos remedios secretos de su invenci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1997\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/eponimos-cientificos\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2011\/10\/FOTO351.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/eponimos-cientificos\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2011\/10\/FOTO351.jpg 311w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/eponimos-cientificos\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2011\/10\/FOTO351-300x217.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Antih\u00e9tico de Poterio<\/strong><br \/>\nRemedio secreto que se obten\u00eda por calentamiento de una mezcla de \u00f3xidos de antimonio y de esta\u00f1o, que durante el siglo XVIII fue muy usado para la fiebre agitada y otras dolencias.<\/p>\n<p>Antonio Ballano en su \u201cDiccionario de medicina y cirug\u00eda\u201d, tomo 1, p. 453 (Madrid, 1805), cita brevemente al Antih\u00e9tico de Poterio entre los medicamentos \u201cb\u00e9quicos resolutivos o incidentes \u2026 que tienen la propiedad de disolver los infartos agudos o cr\u00f3nicos, formados en los pulmones por la condensaci\u00f3n y coagulaci\u00f3n de los humores que los ba\u00f1an.
