What probably came to your mind while reading these words was these <strong>brands\u2019 logo<\/strong>: the apple, the M, the swoosh. A logo is what the consumer has in mind when the company is brought up. Thus, its potential is immense. So, let\u2019s break down few things that make a great logo!<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Brand values embodiment<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>An image is worth a thousand words; and that is all the more true for a logo. Indeed, <strong>it encapsulates a whole brand<\/strong> and its products in a very simple illustration. And that\u2019s a really hard thing to do!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10032\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10032\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10032\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/diseno\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2020\/07\/Nike_Logo.gif\" alt=\"Credit Photo | LogoCreative\" width=\"1000\" height=\"199\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit Photo | LogoCreative<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For instance, Nike\u2019s swoosh may seem awfully simple, but it almost unconsciously connotes dynamism, motion, speed&#8230; That\u2019s why even simple-looking logos can take up to 30 working hours for a <strong>graphic designer<\/strong> to manage to materialise values, concepts, products and even a vision!<\/p>\n<h4><strong>The use of colours<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>What a better way to symbolize values than colours? Colours have meaning and express different emotions, personality traits or attitudes. Besides, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorcom.com\/research\/why-color-matters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>study shows<\/strong><\/a> that colour increases <strong>brand recognition<\/strong> by up to 80 percent. And indeed, only few logos are in black and white and for one simple reason: a logo that catches the eye is often key to stand out from competitors!<\/p>\n<p>Here you can see some colours&#8217; meanings and how they were used in logo making:<\/p>\n<div class=\"visually_embed\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/visual.ly\/community\/Infographics\/entertainment\/color-emotion-guide?utm_source=visually_embed\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"visually_embed_infographic aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/visual.ly\/node\/image\/248935?_w=540\" alt=\"Color Emotion Guide \" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/visual.ly?utm_source=content-embed&amp;utm_medium=embed\">Visually<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4><strong>Simplicity<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Interbrand\u2019s list of the top 100 brands of the world<\/strong> shows that 93% of the logos are simple enough to be viewable in small sizes.<\/p>\n<p>These past few decades, logos have been becoming less and less complex. This logo evolution towards more simplicity is for example striking with the <a href=\"https:\/\/1000logos.net\/google-logo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Google logo<\/strong><\/a> which gave up on its 3D appearance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10030\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10030\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10030\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/diseno\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2020\/07\/Google_Logo.png\" alt=\"Photo Credit | Google\" width=\"750\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/diseno\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2020\/07\/Google_Logo.png 750w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/diseno\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2020\/07\/Google_Logo-315x105.png 315w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/diseno\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2020\/07\/Google_Logo-700x233.png 700w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/diseno\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2020\/07\/Google_Logo-696x232.png 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10030\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Credit | Google<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the main reasons for this change is the growing need for a logo to be viewable in small size. This requirement also triggered a change in font from serif font going sans serif, the latter being more easily legible in small size.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Uniqueness<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Talking of simplicity and minimalism, in 2015, Turkish graphic designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/28145511\/ULTRA-MINIMALIST-DESIGN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bilal Ko\u00e7<\/strong><\/a> proved that iconic logos, even with only their raw outlines, were still easily identifiable.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s because these logos are unique. Uniqueness is central in logo making, mostly because the brand could be mixed up with another company\u2019s logo. Some people often mistake the Chanel logo for the Gucci one and vice versa. For example, the brand name Shell was removed from the logo as now it\u2019s only the iconic yellow and red shell. For example, the Disney or Coca-Cola fonts are very specific and easily identifiable so that even when they are used to write another name, the viewer still recognizes the brand\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>So, there are many aspects to consider when designing a logo!
