No-one knows your son or daughter better than you. So, with your knowledge of their personality, you\u2019ll know what works and what doesn\u2019t and what can get them through the exam period.<\/p>\n

Here are a few suggestions which may be helpful:<\/h4>\n

Studying is the student\u2019s responsibility:<\/h5>\n

You can show interest, but it\u2019s important not to overdo it<\/strong>. It\u2019s a difficult time for them and they often feel more nervous and agitated than usual. Try not to let it bother you \u2013 it\u2019s normal.<\/p>\n

Studying is the responsibility of the student. However, it is important to accompany and motivate you during your process.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Manage study time:<\/h5>\n

Working out when to study and when to take a break is something that they should do themselves. We\u2019re all different regarding the time of day at which we\u2019re at our best. Respecting the times they choose to study <\/strong>at is important (whether this is the morning, afternoon or night). If they are out, you call them and then they don\u2019t pick up the phone, don\u2019t be alarmed. They may be studying or resting.<\/p>\n

As important to study is to rest:<\/h5>\n

Having a good rest is just as important as studying and so it\u2019s important to encourage them to step away from the books for a while<\/strong>, to do something<\/strong> relaxing<\/strong>, and to do some sport<\/strong> if they enjoy it.<\/p>\n

Encourage them to sleep:<\/h5>\n

Encourage them to get enough sleep, especially the night before an exam.<\/p>\n

The hours of sleep and rest are fundamental for better academic performance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Remind them of everything the University has to offer them:<\/h5>\n

Tutorials with their course lecturers<\/strong> who can clear up questions they may have; the Guidance Service<\/a>, which can help them to plan their time, to manage any stress or anxiety they may feel before and during the exam period, and also help with any other issues related to their studies. Remember that students can also use the Library (there\u2019s 24-hour opening<\/strong> during exam periods). First-year students can also put any queries and questions to their personal tutor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The University has multiple resources that help and facilitate the adaptation of the student in his new stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Perhaps the most important thing is for them to feel your support<\/strong>. Wish them luck before their exams and tell them that you believe in them. Even such simple things as these can reduce any anxiety and make them perform better.
