Imagine playing a piece by Mozart or even one composed by you and your friends. Maybe you sing it or play it on the piano. It could be in a university lecture hall or at the Palau de la M\u00fasica<\/a> \u2013 or at the Palacio del Marqu\u00e9s de Dos Aguas<\/a> or the Santa Catalina Church<\/a>. Maybe it\u2019s in front of an audience who are rooting for you anyway\u2026 or before one stacked with connoisseurs of the music world.<\/p>\n

All this and more is possible if you\u2019re in the CEU Orfe\u00f3n<\/em> (the Choir) or the Camerata<\/em> (Chamber Orchestra): as well as providing you with an unbeatable musical education, it\u2019ll also be a truly unique experience: you\u2019ll be rehearsing and performing alongside students from all degrees and countries.<\/a><\/p>\n

Yu Yuan Fuh, who plays the piano and the clarinet in the Camerata, is a 4th year Dentistry student. At the piano, Clara Mercadal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Marta Salcedo<\/strong> and Dennis (Yu Yuan Fuh)<\/strong> know this very well. Marta is a third-year Audiovisual Communication<\/strong> undergraduate and, for the last three years, she\u2019s been a member of the Orfe\u00f3n, in which she is a soprano. Dennis is a fourth-year Dentistry<\/strong> student and has been in the Camerata<\/em> for three years too, playing the clarinet and the piano. They\u2019re both very pleased with their decision to embark on their musical journeys.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019M VERY PROUD TO REPRESENT MY UNIVERSITY IN THE ORFE\u00d3N; IT\u2019S A SOURCE OF GREAT SATISFACTION AND ENJOYMENT\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Marta, who sings because she loves singing and because she finds it relaxing, had always wanted to be in a choir. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the best decisions<\/strong> I\u2019ve ever made. The Orfe\u00f3n<\/em> has been great for me both socially and in the way that it takes my mind off my day-to-day worries. I\u2019m very proud to represent the University; it gives me great satisfaction, enjoyment and happiness,\u201d the prospective media professional told us.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Dennis feels much the same way. \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to play music with other people. A friend said I should join the CEU chamber orchestra and I\u2019m very happy I did.\u201d This student from Taiwan felt nervous in the beginning because \u201cmy Spanish wasn\u2019t good enough to communicate properly, but the people in the choir and chamber orchestra are very welcoming and helpful. I\u2019ve made a lot of friends here<\/strong>.\u201d Dennis feels lucky to have had the opportunity to play at unique venues<\/strong>, such as the Palacio del Marqu\u00e9s de Dos Aguas, which he describes as \u201can unforgettable experience\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019VE ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY MUSIC WITH OTHER PEOPLE. I\u2019M VERY HAPPY I JOINED THE CAMERATA\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mingling with students from many different countries<\/strong> is another of the attractions of being part of the CEU Orfe\u00f3n<\/em> and Camerata<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeeting people from other countries has been really enriching for me, culturally speaking, and it\u2019s also interesting to learn about degrees other than my own,\u201d Marta said. \u201cI definitely do feel more of a part of university life<\/strong> by being in the Orfe\u00f3n<\/em>. I\u2019ve made new friends, both from Spain and abroad, and that\u2019s broadened my mind<\/strong> and made me think about going abroad in the future, either for further study or for work.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Dennis, joining the Camerata has been a milestone in his integration into university life. \u201cI hadn\u2019t had the opportunity to meet people from other degrees and countries until I joined the chamber orchestra, and it\u2019s also given me the chance to practise my Spanish,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dennis feels part of the university community thanks to the Camerata \/ with Cristina and Pilar Ort\u00edn, clarinet and flute players.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In the future, this dentist-in-the-making would love to attend more musical events and meet more people who like to play music and sing. He urges other students to join the Orfe\u00f3n<\/em> and Camerata<\/em> so that they can play and enjoy music together.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marta is sure too that the experience has added to her education<\/strong>: \u201cSinging in the Orfe\u00f3n<\/em> has taught me about taking on commitments, working as part of a team and getting organized so that I can be in the right place at the right time for the rehearsals and performances.\u201d<\/p>\n

THE ORFE\u00d3N AND THE CAMERATA ARE TWO FIRST-CLASS OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO SHARE IN THEIR PASSION FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC WITH OTHER STUDENTS FROM A RANGE OF COUNTRIES<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Having begun more than thirty years ago, and now coordinated by C\u00e9sar Blecua<\/strong> and with the maestro Jos\u00e9 Manuel Palau<\/strong> as conductor, the CEU Orfe\u00f3n<\/em> and Camerata<\/em> are two first -class opportunities for students to share in their passion for classical music with other students from a range of different countries.<\/p>\n

Many students already know this \u2013 and not only the Spanish ones. Participants include students from France, Peru, Russia, Taiwan, the USA, Germany, Jordan, Italy, the UK, Morocco and even the Faroe Islands!<\/p>\n
