But even the most prepared person can\u2019t predict everything that\u2019s going to or could happen to them. In my opinion, there are so many things nobody tells you about university and travelling, combine the two and there are certain things nobody tells you about <strong>studying abroad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So \u2013 as someone who is studying abroad at <strong>University\u00a0CEU Cardenal Herrera<\/strong>\u00a0in Valencia, Spain \u2013 these are some of the things I realised.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>1.<\/strong><\/span> <strong>You will learn about many different cultures, not just the Spanish culture<\/strong>. If you go to Spain you are expected to learn Spanish, but one of the most interesting things I found out was how much I learnt about my friends&#8217; cultures as well. I always knew there will be many international students since my degree programme is in English, however I didn\u2019t think I would experience and be so involved in their culture. We all had something to offer and intrigued in learning something new.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">2.<\/span> You will want to go home several times while you\u2019re there, but after you go home, you\u2019ll want to go back every single day.<\/strong> I would have taken a flight back home without regret or second thoughts about it, however I\u2019m so glad I decided to stick it out. When I went back home for the holidays I was so excited to see my family and friend, however it felt strange. I just wanted to be back in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/que-quieres\/ciudades-pueblos\/grandes-ciudades\/valencia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Valencia<\/a>. It will grow on you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14067 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU.png 416w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU-399x300.png 399w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU-80x60.png 80w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU-265x198.png 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 416px) 100vw, 416px\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">3.<\/span> You realise who your true friends are\u2026 back home.<\/strong><br \/>\nMaking friends abroad wasn\u2019t a problem; it\u2019s the friends back in England that I found most difficult to keep a connection with. You find to your surprise that both of you are not that bothered to try.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unfortunately, I realised a lot of friends weren\u2019t who I thought they were while I was away. When I came back, things were very different. But I think a big part of the reason was that I got to know myself a bit better and changed in Spain, but I wouldn\u2019t change who I found myself to be, and sadly if that means going through a tough time losing some friends and gaining others, I\u2019d do it all over again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14064 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU_Valencia.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU_Valencia.png 448w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU_Valencia-431x300.png 431w, https:\/\/blog.uchceu.es\/campus-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/04\/International_Students_CEU_Valencia-100x70.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/>4.<\/span> You will be challenged by the language barrier.<\/strong> When I first came to Spain, I didn\u2019t know any Spanish at all, and I thought that I would be able to communicate with everyone in English, however that wasn\u2019t the case. In Valencia, Especially in Moncada there aren\u2019t very many English speaking people, and English isn\u2019t a language that is used. You might think this is a bad thing however, it is an amazing opportunity to learn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchceu.es\/en\/services\/language-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spanish language<\/a> and if it wasn\u2019t for that, I wouldn\u2019t have learnt as fast as I am learning the language now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">5.<\/span> Everything will be different to your country.<\/strong> When I arrived in\u00a0Spain, I knew it would be different, compared to England, the weather was certainly a difference.
