The\u00a0Portuguese architect\u00a0Gon\u00e7alo Byrne<\/a><\/strong>, whose work is internationally recognized and awarded, for the first time travelled to Valencia, as a member of the international jury of\u00a0CIFA 2014<\/strong>. CIFA 2014 is the\u00a0first edition of the Iberian Competition of Architectural Photography<\/strong><\/a>, jointly organized by University\u00a0Cardenal Herrera and the journal TC Cuadernos. He gave a\u00a0master class during his visit at our university\u00a0for students of the\u00a0Bachelor of Architecture.<\/strong>\u00a0Byrne<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded the Grande M\u00e9daille d\u2019or by the Architecture Academy of France for his life\u00b4s work, among which stand out, in Portugal, the\u00a0Thalia Theatre<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0APL Tower<\/a>\u00a0in Lisbon, the\u00a0National Museum Machado de Castro<\/a>\u00a0in Coimbra, and, in Belgium, the\u00a0provincial government building in Leuven<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese Section of the International Art Critics Association awarded\u00a0Byrne<\/strong>\u00a0with their annual award; furthermore, the architecture faculty of the Technical University of Lisbon and the University of Alghero conferred on him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, and he has been a guest lecturer at the universities of, among others, Harvard, Leuven, Venice, Coimbra, Lisbon, Lausanne, Pamplona and Mendrisio.\u00a0Gon\u00e7alo Byrne<\/strong>\u00a0discussed the key features of his work in the\u00a0class he gave to\u00a0Architecture\u00a0students at University CEU Cardenal Herrera.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Photography and architecture made in Spain<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Basque architect and photographer\u00a0I\u00f1aki Bergera<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that same day at the\u00a0ESET (Technical School of Engineering at University CEU Cardenal Herrera)<\/strong>\u00a0gave a conference with the title \u2018Photography and architecture made in Spain\u2019.\u00a0Bergera<\/strong>\u00a0holds a master in Architecture from the University of Harvard, teaches at the University of Zaragoza, and has been guest lecturer at various prestigious academic institutions, like the London Architectural Association, the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey (TEC), Centro de Estudios Superiores de Dise\u00f1o de Monterrey (CEDIM), and the architecture schools of the University of Arizona (in Tucson), the University of Bologna-Cesena (Italy) and the Lisbon Technical University (Portugal).<\/p>\n

Bergera<\/strong>\u00a0has worked together with various important professional journals \u2013 such as\u00a0Casabella<\/em>,\u00a0A10<\/em>,\u00a0The Architect\u2019s Journal<\/em>,\u00a0Detail<\/em>,\u00a0Arquitectura Viva<\/em>,\u00a0Baunetz<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0ArchDaily<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 after he completed, together with British photographer Chris Killip, his studies in photography at the Harvard School of Visual Arts.\u00a0I\u00f1aki Bergera<\/strong>\u00a0is the principal investigator in the project \u2018Modern Photography and Architecture in Spain 1925-1965\u2019, which is financed by the national I+D+I plan that the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness manages.<\/p>\n

Exposition of the CIFA 2014 competition<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gon\u00e7alo Byrne<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0I\u00f1aki Bergera<\/strong>\u00a0are members of the jury in\u00a0CIFA 2014, the first edition of the Iberian Competition of Architectural Photography<\/a>. Architecture students from Spain and Portugal compete in this contest, and their works have been on display in the exhibition organized at the\u00a0ESET (Technical School of Engineering at CEU-UCH)<\/strong>\u00a0since Thursday October 23. The jury is presided by\u00a0rector Rosa Visiedo\u00a0and its other members are\u00a0Javier Garc\u00eda Solera<\/strong>, who was awarded the social housing prize at the tenth Biennial of Spanish Architecture,\u00a0TC Cuadernos<\/a>\u00a0editor Jos\u00e9 Miguel Rubio, photographer Diego Opazo, and Ricardo Mer\u00ed de la Maza, IDIT director and secretary of the competition.<\/p>\n

The 31 entries that were submitted for\u00a0CIFA 2014<\/strong>\u00a0have been on display in the hall of the ESET institute since October 23.\u00a0Voting on entries is possible on the TC Cuadernos web page until November 5. The entry that receives the most votes will be awarded the prize of the audience.<\/p>\n
