You never know how talented your students are until you see them in action; that is the first thing that came to our mind when we entered class number A0.3 and saw Mar\u00eda, current student of Architecture<\/strong>, running\u00a0a workshop on designing and manufacturing your\u00a0own custom ties and bow ties<\/strong>\u00a0–\u00a0one of the many small ateliers<\/em> organized by our Technical School during\u00a0the first edition of their CreaFest\u00a0Winter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“My mother is very skilled at sewing\u00a0and I have always liked working with different patterns to create\u00a0my own designs”, says Mar\u00eda Albert, currently studying 5th year of Architecture. Apparently it all began just before\u00a0a wedding, when she started working with small spare pieces of fabric\u00a0to tailor-make a\u00a0tie for her boyfriend. As word spread that she had designed that one-of-a-kind tie herself, friends started asking her to create new custom designs<\/strong> for them.<\/p>\n

Mar\u00eda tells us that “I don’t sell my designs, I just make them for friends on special occasions” but she also confesses that she enjoys very much sharing this hobby<\/strong> with other people.<\/p>\n

About the workshop, she tells us that she came up with the idea after a conversation with professor\u00a0Pedro Verdejo<\/a>, who at some point admitted that he didn’t know how to make a proper tie knot<\/strong> (can you believe that!). It was\u00a0obviously then that we insisted on the presence of this professor, at least to see if this was true and so we turned the workshop\u00a0into a\u00a0how-to-make-your-tie-knot interactive tutorial<\/em>, which attracted – we must admit – quite a large number of professors of our Technical School. Fact: 70% of the academic staff at the ESET are unable to\u00a0tie a tie!<\/strong><\/p>\n

When asked about her career prospects, Mar\u00eda is categorical: “I want to finish my degree”. And, though she is currently working as a Math teacher for children, this resourceful future architect doesn’t rule out any possibility: “Even going abroad to work”, she tells us.<\/p>\n
